One more sleep until our grand finale for the year takes place; the Handmade Christmas Market will be held tomorrow between 10 AM - 3 PM at the Clarenville Inn! There will be an abundance of holiday goodies and crafts available tomorrow, along with different themed rooms you can explore!

Due to technical difficulties, we have made a few adjustments to our events for the day. In lieu of the 50/50 draw and Santa gifts, we will be holding an online gift draw that will continue into December. Santa has assured us that he will be making a special appearance! The online draw will feature a selection of fantastic items that our vendors have carefully crafted, so even if you cannot make it to the market tomorrow, you will have a chance to win some top-of-the-line gifts. More info on that to come!

The 'Ugly Sweater Contest' is going to be a blast - the winner will take home a vegetable hamper which has been kindly donated by Clearview Farm! We have a unique door prize from the talented Wild Iris. Also, don't forget that we will be accepting non-perishable food donations for the The Salvation Army Clarenville Corps.

Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day, we hope that you can join us to help celebrate the holiday spirit at our Handmade Christmas Market!

End of the Season & Tent Removal

11/9/2017

Comments

The late fall weather we have been experiencing dictated that it was finally time to remove our tent. We had ideal weather for removing the tent: cool temperature, and very little wind. A huge thank you to Boyd Reader, David Chatman, Don Watton, Mike Drodge, and Jonathan Peach. These gentlemen donated their time and hard work to help us with the removal and storage of the tent.

Thank you kindly for all of your help!
Message from Keith Pardy regarding the closing of this year's market:
"We have moved into the volatile winds of late fall, and as we are on the edge of winter, the weather has reflected this notion.

The strong winds on Sunday night resulted in some damage to the tent. In looking at the wind forecast for this coming Saturday, it is forecasting winds of up to 65 kph. Our number 1 priority is the safety of our vendors, customers, and partners, so for this reason we have decided to take the tent down and store it for the winter.

We know that this early closing will disappoint many of our vendors and customers as we have strong bookings right up to the end of season, but we must act on the side of caution as personal safety is paramount to our cause.

As you are all aware, we are in the final planning stages for replacing the tent in year 2 with a permanent wood frame structure. We feel confident that we can execute this enhanced infrastructure plan for 2018 so that we can have continuous operations for next year's season.

We will be holding a series of vendor and partner meetings over the winter to get your valuable input into our operational plan. We hope you know that we have really appreciated your support during the 1st year of operation and look forward to a great and fruitful future for the years ahead.
May calm wind favor our winter holiday season."

Sincerely,
Keith Pardy
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the FMIC

We are very excited to announce that we are one of the finalists in the Aviva Community Fund!
The Farm & Market wants to offer a very special thanks to everyone who supported our idea by voting, sharing, and expressing your thoughts on Phase Two of the Farm & Market. The grand prize winners will be announced on December 5th!

There are 36 finalists across Canada who have made it to this level of the competition; each finalist has developed a unique idea that will bring about positive change in their respective communities. Our own idea, Phase Two of the Farm & Market, will include a permanent wooden structure, roofing over our performance deck (for those challenging weather days here in Newfoundland), and a washroom facility on the premises. We are confident that with these changes we would be able to enact new community initiatives, healthy living educational programs, and even more fun-filled days at the Farm & Market! To say that we are excited about the potential of next year's growth is an understatement.

With successful funding we will be able to expand the Farm & Market in Clarenville with these permanent improvements prior to the 2018 market season beginning in June.

For more information on our idea, please check us out on the Aviva Community Fund website. If you are interested in exploring other community-based projects across Canada, take a look here!
